Defiant Zelenskiy Still in Kyiv, While Putin Calls on Ukrainian Military to Seize Power

UKRAINE: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday night has posted a video of himself alongside other Ukrainian officials in the governmental district of Kyiv, confirming that he is still in the capital.

Zelenskiy has named the advisors with him, including the Prime Minister, Denys Shmygal, who displayed the time and date on his phone on-screen.

Zelenskiy has ended the video with the words "glory to Ukraine," to which his advisers responded "glory to our heroes."

The city's mayor has said "saboteurs" had entered the city and were fighting in the outskirts and most streets are deserted.

Authorities have urged Kyiv residents to prepare Molotov cocktails to defend the capital, as Russian missiles continue to pound the city, forcing residents to shelter in metro stations.

Earlier, Zelenskiy has said he knew he was "the number one target" but would stay in Kyiv.

While Russian President Vladimir Putin has said at a televised meeting with Russia’s security cocuncil ; "I once again appeal to the military personnel of the armed forces of Ukraine: do not allow neo-Nazis and Ukrainian radical nationalists to use your children, wives and elders as human shields.”

"Take power into your own hands, it will be easier for us to reach agreement."

Putin has added that Russian servicemen in Ukraine were acting "bravely, professionally and heroically."
